The name of Jesus...Is Offensive !!!
Correction... I actually had the nights reversed... The first night when asking for $$$ they leave out the name of Jesus and on the last night they amazingly include it... Thanks Dr. Hoyle for correcting me on this. I diffidently had the nights confused..I have corrected it in this article.
Well, I don't know if any of you caught this last week.. American Idol had its 2nd annual Idol Gives Back program. The first night the idol contestants sang Shout To The Lord. In this version the lyrics are edited and the name of Jesus is not proclaimed as they ask for money. Here is that video...
This is unfortunate and tragic at the same time. Did Fox executives make this call? Was it because of high profiled celebs involved in the raising of funds? No one really knows. Just on that night, Jesus was not proclaimed, but was edited out of the song.
Here is what happened on the closing night, the name of Jesus was left in.
I am glad that the name of Jesus was proclaimed.. No matter what the venue!! Yet surprised it was left in this time. However, I do applaud this.
So what is the big deal? Here it is... Take away the centrality of Jesus in this song and it leaves it open to many different interpretations. Many religions say god, lord and in this case shepard. But they all stay away from Jesus !!!! But after all it is American Idol... Simon can say offensive things and his words stand. Yet the name of Jesus is removed because it is more offensive than Simon could ever be. It is just as disturbing to me to hear "Christians" say "What's the big deal? Jesus or Shepard". Folks words mean something and there is a big difference between shepard and Jesus. This was no small deletion!!!

actually it was the other way around. they sang the edited version on Wednesday night, when they were begging for money. and had big name stars on (to not offend.) then Thursday night they sang the "Jesus" (original) version.
perhaps someone (one or some of the singers) made a fuss about it? that they included it at all in the show was surprising.
also it seems they didn't have any issue the week before with Dolly Parton singing about Jesus, and some of the contestants singing her songs, which some included the name Jesus.
regardless, interesting\weird politics going on for sure!
Sam, you are right, I do have it backards...as they say in the South... Thanks for making me aware of that...
Yes funny stuff going on there.. Very suprised the name of Jesus was sang at all.
I know people over here in Singapore who think it's so wiered that they can't use "Merry Christmas" in company emails that are owned by U.S Firms. The funny thing is that even the average muslim already knows Christmas is a Christian holiday. Soon americans won't be able to say "Happy Thanksgiving", Or "Happy Turkey Day", because it offends PETA, because turkeys are being killed.
