Christian Music loses its Pioneer
In what was his last U.S. concert, 58-year-old Larry Norman came out of retirement June of 2005 at the historic Elsinore Theatre and wowed a sold-out audience in Salem, Oregon.
Norman stated, "As far as I can tell, this is the last time I'll be able to play in America"
Norman, known as the Father of Christian Rock, had suffered head injuries in an airplane accident 27 years ago and severe heart problems 14 years ago, Norman has been unable to tour regularly. He officially retired in 2001, the same year he underwent quadruple bypass surgery and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
On Sunday the 24th, Norman went home to be with the Lord, he died of heart failure at his home in Salem. He was 60.
Steve Camp, friend and student of Norman, shares some wonderful thoughts and memories on his blog “Camp On This” posted on Monday the 25th. http://stevenjcamp.blogspot.com/.
Here at CCR, we thank the Lord for Larry’s testimony and his zeal for witnessing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
By His Grace alone,
Bill
